Academy Award-winning actor and film producer Michael Douglas visits High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu

  Mr. Michael Douglas, Academy Award-winning actor and film producer made a courtesy visit to Ms. Izumi Nakamitsu, Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs on 6 June 2017 in New York. Mr. Douglas has served as a United Nations Messenger of Peace since 1998 and is the longest serving Messenger of Peace, who has a relentless commitment to disarmament.

They exchanged views on various issues related to the disarmament and non-proliferation agenda and the important role played by civil society both in outreach to Member States and in galvanizing public support for a world free of nuclear weapons.

Ms. Nakamitsu expressed hope and thanks for his continued support to the work of the United Nations and especially for his long-standing advocacy for nuclear disarmament, and the desire for his participation whenever possible.
