Open Call for Civil Society Coordinator – International Meeting on Victim Assistance and Environmental Remediation

International Meeting on Victim Assistance and Environmental Remediation to be Convened by the Secretary-General pursuant to A/RES/80/56.-General pursuant to A/RES/80/56

Date: 24 April 2026 (United Nations Headquarters, New York)

The Secretariat invites expressions of interest from civil society organizations (CSOs) wishing to serve as the Civil Society Coordinator for the above-referenced meeting.

In line with operative paragraph 2 of General Assembly resolution 80/56, the meeting will bring together States, civil society organizations, scientists, academia, and affected communities. To facilitate inclusive, transparent and organized civil society participation, the Secretariat will designate one CSO to serve as the coordinator for outreach, consultation, and communication with the Secretariat in the leadup to the meeting.


Role of the Civil Society Coordinator

The coordinator will be invited to:

· Support broad outreach to relevant CSOs, survivor groups, and affected communities;

· Facilitate internal civil society consultations ahead of the meeting;

· Serve as a focal point for communication between participating CSOs and the Secretariat;

· Help consolidate CSO inputs and logistical questions, where applicable;

· Promote balanced, inclusive, and transparent participation across regions and constituencies.

The coordinator will not speak on behalf of civil society unless chosen to do so by CSOs themselves.


Eligibility

Applications are invited from:

· Registered non-governmental organizations with demonstrated work related to disarmament, humanitarian action, human rights, environmental remediation, or support for affected communities;

· Organizations with capacity to coordinate diverse CSO participation in an international UN meeting;

· Organizations able to designate at least one focal point to serve in this role throughout the preparatory period.


Application Requirements

Interested organizations are invited to submit a short written expression of interest (maximum 2 pages) addressing:

  1. Relevant experience, including past coordination of CSO coalitions or participation in multilateral processes;
  2. Proposed plan and timeline for outreach, consultations, and communication (including with survivor and affected community groups);
  3. Approach to inclusivity and balance, including how the organization will ensure transparency and equitable representation;
  4. Designated focal point(s) and description of operational capacity or available resources.

Organizations may attach up to one additional page of supporting information (optional).
