Dag Hammarskjöld Library: Research Guide and Book Exhibit to commemorate International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons (26 Sep)

The Dag Hammarskjöld Library (UN Library), based at the UN Headquarters in New York is an integral component of the Organization, responsible for research and the management of the intellectual output by the United Nations (UN).

One of the Library’s mandates is to support UN departmental research needs, primarily on thematic and subject areas that the UN addresses.  One of these subject’s themes is disarmament.

On 26 September 2017, during the observance of the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, the General Assembly will hold a one- day high-level event, to address issues that pertain to disarmament. To support delegates attending the event, the Library has repackaged several information products useful for research on this subject. This includes:

  • A research guide on disarmament; available at: http://research.un.org/en/docs/disarmament. This guide aggregates peer-reviewed UN and non-UN resources on the subject.  The Library will showcase this research guide at a library exhibit, held at the UN Headquarters on this day.
  • A book exhibit in the Library’s reading room. These books will be available for consultation and use for two weeks for all delegates and staff at the UN headquarters (beginning 20 September, 2017). This also includes access to e-books, journals and peer-reviewed articles on this subject—searchable while at the UN headquarters through the library’s on-line catalogue.

Curious about questions the Library has answered on disarmament?

The Library welcomes all UN-related research inquiries on this topic, from all researchers across the globe via our Ask DAG service.
