Building a comprehensive arms control system in the Pacific through strengthened implementation of international arms control standards

Implementing agency: Centre for Armed Violence Reduction (CAVR), as Secretariat for the Pacific Small Arms Action Group (PSAAG)

Project timeframe: 01/01/2017 – 31/12/2018

Target countries: Pacific countries, in particular Melanesian States: Fiji, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu

Goal: Reduced vulnerability of the Pacific to illicit arms and armed violence through the adoption of strong international standards for arms control across the region.

Activities and Outputs:

  • Participants of the sub-regional workshop in Vanuatu

    CAVR held sub-regional and national arms-control workshops in Vanuatu focussing on the adoption of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) and the implementation of UNPoA.

 

  • The project provided support to target countries in harmonising legislation, developing centralised arms control database systems, providing gap analyses and organising technical training.
