Kosovo Safety and Security Project

Target countries: Kosovo

Goal: Contribute to the implementation of the United Nations Programme of Action (UNPOA) and the reduction of illegal possession and its misuse in Kosovo. It will further contribute to regional security in the Western Balkan region.

Activities: The Kosovo Safety and Security project is the follow up of the Kosovo Small Arms Project and includes four main functional areas: 1. Small Arms Light Weapons and Explosives control; 2. Prevention of Violent Extremism; 3. Protection of Critical Infrastructure, and 4. Community Safety including Community Policing. The programme is fully embedded in the Department for Public Safety in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This project will support Kosovo institutions during the implementation of Law No. 05/L –134 on legalization and surrender of weapons, ammunition and explosive devices. All planned activities are in line with Kosovo’s strategic and policy framework and linked with SDG 16.4.
