Building resources and capacities to contain illicit arms flows to embargoed countries and non-state actors

Target countries: Burkina Faso, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Kenya, Uganda, Senegal, South Sudan

Goal: Identify risks and challenges faced by Sub-Saharan countries in the vicinity of territories placed under arms embargoes. Build knowledge, resources and capacities to help States control the illicit flow of arms to embargoed territories; and inform practices, assistance and cooperation programs.

Activities: Develop steps to address risks that territories and institutions face when areas embargoes are violated. Consequently, monitoring and recording territories in violation of such embargoes. The developed steps to be tested in the field in 3 applicable countries: (Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso and Uganda); and to be adopted in the trainings at the seminars in the ECOWAS and RECSA regions. An embargoes database will be created in both French and English.
