Furthering ATT Universalization Through Building Knowledge Via an ATT Academy

Goal: To support Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) universalization and effective implementation by increasing the level of technical knowledge pertaining to Treaty implementation

Activities and Outputs:

• The project provided in-depth technical training on ATT implementation to fifteen government and civil society representatives from the Horn and East of Africa.

 

• During the six-month-long learning programme, participants gained a thorough understanding of the Treaty, personalized training on practical issues they faced, and were provided with on-the-job support.

 

• Pace and Control Arms published three reports: 1) “How to Use the Arms Trade Treaty to Address Wildlife Crime” (Sep 2016) offers guidance to policymakers and advocates on using the ATT to mitigate the risk of diversion to poaching networks; 2) “How to Use the Arms Trade Treaty to Address Armed Violence in Pastoralist Communities” (Mar 2017) explores how the ATT can address the effect of SALW proliferation among pastoralist communities in the East and Horn of Africa region and elsewhere; and 3) “The Role of Education in Advancing Arms Trade Treaty Universalization and Implementation: Lessons Learned from ATT Academy East Africa 2016 – 2017” (May 2017).
