Ratification and Implementation of the ATT

• UNREC fostered ATT signature and ratification through workshops and publications, resulting in an increased number of ratification and accessions to the ATT of African States.

  

• UNREC held a workshop on the human rights and gender aspects of the ATT and published an outcome document titled ‘Implementation of ATT Obligations relating to Human Rights and Gender-Based Violence’. Recommendations from the workshop were published as an advocacy toolkit ‘Gender Dimensions of the Arms Trade Treaty’.

• UNREC held a workshop on synergies and complementarities between different arms control instruments where it presented a paper titled ‘Synergies and Complementarities between the ATT, the ECOWAS Convention on SALW, the UNPoA and Other Disarmament Instruments’

The Centre organized a workshop convening governmental representatives from all six African SIDS, the African Union, the Regional Disarmament Branch of the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs and the Institute for Security Studies (ISS Africa) on 29 and 30 May 2015. The workshop identified needs and challenges for SIDS regarding the ATT implementation, measures which could be taken to address such challenges.
