Strong Civil society Participation in BMS6 in 2016 and Systematic Preparation Towards SALW RevCon3 in 2018

Latin America and the Caribbean: Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica. Asia/Pacific: Philippines, India, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Pakistan, Fiji. MENA: Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Jordan.

Goal: To enhance civil society advocacy capacity to promote and monitor implementation of the ATT, PoA and other related instruments.

Activities:

Pre-conference workshop participants
  • The project secured the meaningful and productive participation of civil society organisations from across the world at BMS6 and First Committee 2016. This was achieved through pre-conference workshops which saw 39 participants (50% female) in knowledge building and planning sessions with attendees from 22 countries, 6 missions, UNDP and UNODA. WAANSA also produced a Civil Society Advocacy Guide to better inform participants.

 

  • IANSA hosted 2 side events at BMS6 and one at 1st Committee, and delegations also featured as speakers in at least 7 other side events hosted by States or NGOs.

 

  • 3 Briefing Papers on Sustainable Development Goals, PoA and Gender, Ammunition in PoA and Synergies of PoA, ATT and UN Register were completed in 3 languages, and 2 papers from IANSA member groups were also completed. A final report titled ‘Time to End the Deadly Flood of Funs’ was also produced through the support of UNSCAR.
