Disarmament in Review

Target countries: Africa/Middle East, Asia and Latin America/Caribbean
Goal: To enhance regional understanding on common approaches and methods to regions that do not exhibit high levels of participation in export control regimes through strengthening end use/r control measures against diversion such as the ATT and UNPoA.
Activities:
- UNIDIR organized three sub/regional consultative meetings in the Caribbean, Africa and Asia regions to provide a platform to identify potential areas for cooperation, shared understanding and possible alignment of measures when it comes to end use/r control systems.
- A side-event was hosted in cooperation with Amnesty International Secretariat in the margins of the CSP2 to the ATT. The event saw over 40 representatives from States, the UN, international and regional organizations and expert NGOs participate, 25 percent of who were female.
- A survey was also distributed and received participation from 50 States from a range of geographical locations that was used in the completion of a final comprehensive study, which provides a cross-regional analysis of shared understandings and options for a comprehensive international approach on end use/r controls. The study was widely disseminated through its e-publication and outreach network.
