Target countries: South and East Asia: Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam
Goal: To support universalization of the ATT by identifying barriers and obstacles to its accession and ratification, by providing options for actions aimed at overcoming such barriers in a research report.
Activities:
- Two events were hosted by RAND Europe that allowed the project and those involved to engage with a wide range of interested stakeholders. The first event took place in Geneva and saw over 40 participants actively engage with expert panellists. The second event, hosted in coordination with UNRCPD in New York, focused on the importance of ATT membership in the Asia-Pacific region and launch of RAND’s study on the Treaty accession and implementation.
- The final research product, ‘Towards a Universal Arms Trade Treaty’ saw the project team not only identify specific issues that are preventing or slowing the accession/ratification process in the region, but also develop a conceptual framework that allows for a systematic mapping of enablers and inhibitors related to national accession/ratification processes. The final report was downloaded 485 times and viewed online 273 times within the first thirty days.
