UNODA-OSCE Scholarship for Peace and Security awarded with “Gender Champion Award”

Vienna – On 14 March 2019, the Scholarship for Peace and Security, a joint initiative of United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), has received the “Gender Champion Award”, for its contribution to empowering women in promoting international peace and security.

The Scholarship was hailed by the OSCE as an outstanding initiative for its support for young women in the security sector. The OSCE especially acknowledged the contribution of the Scholarship in creating equal opportunities for young female professionals to participate in policymaking, planning and implementation processes in the area of arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation.

The training course sponsored by the Scholarship covers key conceptual and practical aspects of conflict prevention and resolution, arms control, non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, disarmament and development, peace and development-related technologies, and gender aspects.

The 2019 Scholarship for Peace and Security has launched in January 2019 offering a total of 100 scholarships for young professionals, particularly women.
